TravelMaster prices are changing from 4 January 2026.
It has been a challenging year for public transport operators in South Yorkshire. Public transport is both a service for people but also an employer of a significant number of people. Costs have continued to rise and increases in National Insurance from April 2025 have added further pressures.
The TravelMaster Board has made the difficult decision to increase prices to ensure that the current levels of operations can continue.
Last year TravelMaster embarked on the process of simplification and the SYBus continues to grow in popularity. Recently 1-Day SYConnect+ and GetAbout+ tickets have been added to the TravelMaster App as QR mTickets, allowing scanning onboard trains. The work to improve the ticketing range will continue as we approach franchising and TravelMaster continues to engage with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to deliver a better public transport network.
John Henshall, TravelMaster General Manager, has commented on the changes that:
“Public transport fares have been in the press a lot recently with rail fares and more locally tram fares frozen. These initiatives have been supported via public funding. Integrated transport ticketing is often forgotten in these decisions so operators need to make decisions which align with rising costs.”
“TravelMaster’s longer period (28-day CityBus and annual) bus only tickets continue to be cheaper than £3 a day, less than the maximum fare for a single trip under the fare caps. Even without the subsidy of places like Manchester and West Yorkshire, weekly tickets continue to offer similar value than neighbouring regions.”
“We know we’ve not completely exited the cost-of-living crisis. Weekly tickets continue to offer the best value for passengers with tight budgets so we’ve ensured that the step between bus only and bus and tram tickets remains the same this year.”
