Director & GM shortlisted for Director of year award

TravelMaster's Director & General Manager, Matt Smallwood, has made the shortlist as a finalist for Young Director of the Year in the Yorkshire & North East Director of the Year Awards 2020.

Matt is amongst the finalists for Young Director at the awards celebrating the region's young and upcoming leaders who have demonstrated excellent entrepreneurial potential, ability, ambition, creativity and vision in new or established businesses.

As our Director & General Manager he is accountable to the region’s public transport operators for the effective management, development and delivery of TravelMaster's objectives and development in the smart transport ticketing sector.

He joined TravelMaster as a Commercial Officer in 2013 after graduating from the University of York with a Bachelor of Laws. In 2016 he was promoted to lead TravelMaster’s day-to-day operations and then in 2017 he was appointed to lead the company as General Manager – he formally took on an executive director role for the company in 2019.

Since taking the helm of the company he has delivered a re-designed governance model, implemented far reaching digital innovation and eCommerce systems and worked to increase the profile of the company with local, regional and national stakeholders.

Today TravelMaster is independently regarded as an example of Good Practice and as one of the leading company’s of its type in the UK. Matt's shortlisting as a finalist in these prestigious awards is even further evidence of this.

The regional awards will take place virtually on the 4th November and we'll be wishing Matt luck amongst what is no doubt a very competitive field. If he wins the regional award he will be entered as a finalist in the National Director of the Year awards 2020.
