On the 2nd January 2017 TravelMaster will be withdrawing the Connect East & Connect South products valid to locations outside of South Yorkshire. Unfortunately, and due to limited sales, this product is no longer sustainable.

6th Mar, 2017: TRAVELMASTER FARE CHANGES - APRIL 2017

TRAVELMASTER FARE CHANGES

06 MARCH 2017

PASSENGERS who purchase a CityBus, CityWide, RConnect, DonConnect or SYConnect ticket will see a change to the price they pay for their tickets from 2nd April 2017.

Ticket prices were last changed in November 2015 when some prices were reduced, however these new fares have been amended following a price review to help to continue to offer a high-quality travel service.

Passengers will be aware that ticket prices were reduced in November 2015, however the tickets affected by this increase remain competitively priced and are in fact cheaper than the original fares introduced in 2012. At that time the popular Citywide 7 day ticket cost £17.

The price changes coming into effect on 2nd April 2017 are:

New CityBus (Any bus in Sheffield) Prices:

CityBus Day - £4.30

CityBus 7 Day - £15.00

CityBus 28 Day - £56.00

New CityWide (Any bus & tram in Sheffield) Prices:

CityWide Day - £4.60

CityWide 7 Day - £16.00

CityWide 28 Day - £60.00

CityWide Annual - No longer available to purchase.

New SYConnect (Any bus & tram in South Yorkshire) Prices:

SYConnect Day - £6.30

SYConnect 7 Day - £22.00

SYConnect 28 Day - £84.00

New RConnect (Any bus in Rotherham) & DonConnect (Any bus in Doncaster) Prices:

RConnect & DonConnect Day: £4.50

RConnect & DonConnect 7 Day: £16.00

RConnect & DonConnect 28 Day: £60.00

A TravelMaster spokesperson said; “It is a difficult decision to increase the cost of our products, however, these changes follow a lengthy price freeze and have been introduced to ensure that our range remains sustainable and that we can continue to offer South Yorkshire’s transport users some of the best value multi-operator tickets in the country”.

Alongside these price revisions TravelMaster will also be introducing a 50p charge for the issuing of a new smartcard. This is to encourage their reuse and follows over two years of cards being issued free of charge to customers with almost half of those only ever having had one product loaded to them. This charge will not apply to personalised cards ordered through MyTSY.com and is less than the production cost for the card.

8th Nov, 2016: UPDATE: Changes to TravelMaster Youth Tickets Postponed

UPDATE: CHANGES TO TRAVELMASTER YOUTH TICKETS POSTPONED

Tuesday November 8th 2016

Earlier this year TravelMaster announced it would be changing the tickets available for young people; this included the withdrawal of existing products for 16 to 25 year olds and their replacement with a new ‘Hopper’ product for people aged up to the day before their 22nd birthday. These changes were intended to simplify and streamline TravelMaster’s tickets into a more sustainable range easier for customers to understand and access.

There have been a number of technical delays in introducing the new ‘Hopper’ product and as a result TravelMaster has made the decision to postpone its introduction until early 2017 in order to avoid any further customer confusion. An announcement detailing the new introduction date will be made later this year; however, TravelMaster remains committed to providing simple and easy to use flexible travel tickets for transport users in South Yorkshire.

Customers can still purchase the existing TravelMaster18, TravelMaster20, TravelMaster25, SYConnect18, SYConnect20 & SYConnect25 products as currently advertised -  http://www.sytravelmaster.com/home_young_people

Matt Smallwood, TravelMaster’s Interim Operations Director, said; “We appreciate that some customers have been confused by the changes we intended to make to our youth tickets and the communication we've issued detailling them. To address this we've made the decision to delay these changes until next year to make sure we can clearly communicate with our customers and ensure their full confidence in the new Hopper ticket. We will be publishing revised details of these changes, and when we intend to make them, on our own online channels and on those of our partners as soon as possible.”

Updates and information on product changes are published on all TravelMaster Social Media:

1st Aug, 2016: Making the Smart Way to Stay Connected in South Yorkshire Easier to Access.

Making the Smart Way to Stay Connected in South Yorkshire Easier to Access.

Planned Changes to the TravelMaster Range

01 August 2016

TravelMaster has provided great value, and easy to access, ticketing products for transport users in South Yorkshire for over 25 years and is now one of the most technologically advanced schemes in the UK outside of London; offering a range of products that are far greater value and far more user orientated than anywhere else.

This innovation means TravelMaster products are moving onto increasingly self-service retail channels. As a result TravelMaster has conducted a comprehensive review of the ticketing products available to ensure that customers in South Yorkshire and the wider Sheffield City Region are able to easily access and understand the products available to them, whilst also ensuring that increasingly diverse travel habits continue to be catered for.

The result of this review is a programme of simplification that will see significant changes to the range of TravelMaster products available for transport users in the region; this simplification will be achieved through the rationalisation of existing products into more user friendly and less complex tickets.

This programme is intended to be implemented in three phases:

  1. Removal and rationalisation of underperforming products in August 2016.
  2. Simplification of Youth Products in September 2016
  3. Simplification of Products crossing into Derbyshire & North Nottinghamshire in January 2017.

In-depth details of each of these phases will be announced via the TravelMaster website in advance of their implementation and via the TravelMaster Social media channels to make sure that any customers impacted are fully aware of intended revisions.

There are however no planned changes to the validity and availability of TravelMaster’s most well-known brands, such as CityWide, CityBus, TravelMaster Gold & RConnect, with this programme being  focused instead on reducing the complexity of the ticketing products TravelMaster has retailled alongside them.

TravelMaster's Interim Operations Director, Matt Smallwood, said, "This programme of simplification has arisen following a full review of our ticketing range and how we can simply and easily cater to the varied needs of transport users in South Yorkshire. Whilst we've made some difficult decisions in changing products that have been a part of our range for a number of years we've done so to ensure that all our customers can continue to enjoy a simple, easy to access and flexible multi-operator ticketing option with minimal confusion and significanlty reduced complexity."

1st Aug, 2016: Changes to Zonal TravelMaster Tickets and Some Age-Related products

Changes to Zonal TravelMaster Tickets and Some Age-Related Products

01 August 2016

On the 15th August 2016 TravelMaster will be making changes to the products available for transport users in South Yorkshire. These changes are phase one of a three phase simplification programme intended to simplify the range of TravelMaster products for transport users by January 2017.

TravelMaster will no longer retail the following products from Ticket Vending Machines:

  • The TravelMaster Barnsley 7 & 28 Day Tickets (Valid on bus & train)
  • The TravelMaster Doncaster 7 & 28 Day Tickets (Valid on bus & train)
  • The TravelMaster Rotherham 7 & 28 Day Tickets (Valid on bus & train)
  • The TravelMaster Sheffield 7 & 28 Day Tickets (Valid on bus, tram & train)

These products are being withdrawn due to the introduction of increasingly more customer relevant products to the four districts of South Yorkshire and the knock on reduction in sales for these legacy products.

From the 15th August the TravelMaster Gold range of tickets will be the only adult products TravelMaster retails that are valid on any bus, tram or train within South Yorkshire.

TravelMaster will also be withdrawing the TravelMaster South range of bus, tram & train tickets as a result of low sales performance and to contribute to a less complex ticketing range. (The adult Connect South & East will remain available).

In addition a number of complicated and underperforming age-related discounted products will also be withdrawn from sale on the 15th August 2016:

  • The Connect18 East 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The Connect20 East 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The Connect25 East 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The Connect18 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The Connect20 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The Connect25 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The TravelMaster18 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The TravelMaster20 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets
  • The TravelMaster25 South 7 & 28 Day Tickets

All of these changes are designed to contribute to an easier to access and less complex range of great value multi-operator ticketing products for transport users in South Yorkshire and the Sheffield City Region.

Other bus or tram only products, such as the CityBus, CityWide, RConnect & DonConnect, are not being changed and customers will still be able to purchase these as they currently do.

16th May, 2016: Introducing the 'Don' of all tickets in Doncaster

Introducing the 'Don' of all tickets in Doncaster.

TravelMaster introduces multi-operator bus ticketing alongside the Doncaster Bus Partnership.

On the 15th May 2016 the new Doncaster Bus Partnership will be introducing a new and improved bus network for transport users in Doncaster. To coincide with this TravelMaster will be launching the new DonConnect ticket; a great value flexible ticket valid for travel on any bus within the Doncaster Zone. The DonConnect ticket will join existing single operator tickets to improve customer choice and offer a great value option for those customers who need to travel on buses operated by more than one company.

Customers will be able to purchase Day, 7 Day & 28 Day variants of the ticket priced the same as our similar RConnect ticket in Rotherham:

DonConnect Day £4.50
DonConnect 7 Day £15.50
DonConnect 28 Day £54.00

The Day and 7 Day versions can be bought on board from a driver* and the 7 and 28 day versions can be bought from Ticket Vending Machines located at interchanges around the county.

The DonConnect can be used for unlimited travel on any bus operated by First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Bus, Powells Bus Company, Arriva Yorkshire and East Yorkshire Motor Services within our Doncaster Zone. Full details can be found at www.sytravelmaster.com/doncaster-connect.

The launch of the DonConnect joins improvements to our range of Sheffield products in November 2015 and the introduction of cross boundary products to Chesterfield, Dronfield, Worksop, Retford & Goole earlier this year.

22nd Mar, 2016: A Smarter Way to Buy on Board

A Smarter Way to Buy on Board

TravelMaster is making the smart way to travel in South Yorkshire even easier to access.

From the 22nd of March 2016 selected TravelMaster products will be issued to smart cards when bought on board the majority of buses and all trams in the region. This exciting development in how we deliver our products is another example of how TravelMaster is at the forefront of delivering innovative approaches to transport ticketing outside of London.

Customers who buy the Day or 7 Day variants of our popular CityBus, CityWide, SYConnect & RConnect tickets will now, instead of being issued a paper ticket, have their flexible and easy to use product loaded to one of our branded smartcards or a Stagecoach branded smart card. Drivers and conductors will have a stock of cards on board for any new customers and any customers with existing cards can have their product loaded to it - this is a first of its kind outside of London and is a great achievement for TravelMaster and our partners and will make accessing our range of products even easier for customers.

This development is the most recent innovation in how we deliver smart products in South Yorkshire; unlike any other region outside London our entire range can now be purchased and used as a smart card across an icnredibly diverse and customer orientated network of retail outlets. This will be the first of what we hope to be many exicting announcements about how our customer's access our products throughout 2016.

14th Mar, 2016: Smarter products for Students in Sheffield

SMARTER PRODUCTS FOR STUDENTS IN SHEFFIELD

Introducing great value tickets for students at The University Of Sheffield

Following on from national campaigns undertaken by local Student Unions and the National Union of Students in 2014 TravelMaster is excited to launch a range of discounted products designed for young people enrolled in full time education in Sheffield. This launch is starting with the installation of a desktop retail unit at the University of Sheffield's Student Union building from which Students can buy a range of travel products valid on any bus or tram in Sheffield & South Yorkshire.

The newly introduced Student CityBus 7 Day, at just £9.00, offers great value unlimited travel on any bus in Sheffield all week and will be issued on bespoke smart cards; with other discounted products available for Students who need to travel further afield or on more than one mode. These products join an increasingly diverse range of great value flexible transport tickets for young people in South Yorkshire.

TravelMaster is working with Sheffield Hallam University, The Sheffield College and other Higher Education Institutes in South Yorkshire to offer similar products and retail options to other young people engaged in full time education.
